Photographers were encouraged to submit photos which reflected the theme – including solar flares and space weather, solar energy, as well as sunrises and sunsets. Other high-quality and artistic photographs were also welcomed.
WMO was overwhelmed by the quality and quantity of photographs submitted to the competition.
With nearly 1 000 amazing submissions from around the world, the selection of 13 photos for the printed calendar was a very difficult decision.
The judging panel had to consider many factors including technical quality, geographical balance and relevance to the theme.
Winning entries are not only featured in the 2019 WMO Calendar, but also showcased on our website, Flickr gallery, Instagram page and displayed on the WMO Facebook Timeline.
Many other photographs we received will also be showcased on WMO social media channels, our website, in outreach activities and in displays at WMO headquarters in Geneva.
